Have you heard the good word? Our Fall Scouterns have joined the world as Scouts-In-Training! We couldn’t be happier to welcome them to Intern Island, as they’re already out dominating, making our lives immensely easier and the world a happier place.
Meet our new crew:
Abby Carney
Abby is a senior at Georgia State University majoring in Journalism with a concentration in Public Relations. She has spent the majority of her college career competing for Georgia State’s cross country and track teams, but she handed over her spandex in January of 2011. She now leads a girls running club at her church and is training for a triathlon.
Abby has been an aspiring wordsmith since early childhood. She began sending manuscripts of her short stories to publishers in first grade, giving her a tough skin early on. She progressed to reporting sports and entertainment in high school and in college for Georgia State’s student publication, The Signal. She is always looking for ways to combine creativity with usability, making Scoutmob the apple of her eye.
Abby loves life as an ATLien and can’t get enough of the local culture. When not making A’s or breaking records, you might find her reading theology, cooking things up in the kitchen, riding her bicycle, hula hooping in the park, globetrotting, attending local shows and festivals or out on a scouting adventure. She’s also a self-professed foodie and addicted to smiling, so now you know the ways to her heart.
Alyssa Stafford
Alyssa grew up in a small town in New England that is not-so-famous for the invention of Goodyear tires, Almond Joys & Mounds, and most significantly, pleather. In the spirit of changing the world forever, she left in the middle of high school to explore Poland for a year. Fast forward two years later and she’s transplanted in Atlanta, where roots have happily taken hold. She is studying literature, creative writing, and Africana studies at Agnes Scott College, a small women’s liberal arts college. She stayed after finding out “it wasn’t as bad as one would think”. Finally, after a myriad of internship, work, and leadership experiences, she finds herself at Scoutmob with an artillery of random skills. Past experiences include an internship with Georgia Public Broadcasting, selling cupcakes, working at a local literary agency, being a live-in nanny, interning at a small Chinese/Southern culture fusion start-up, and booking shows at Agnes Scott. Some skills acquired have proven useless, others indispensable.
When not writing or working, Alyssa is traveling, exploring the local arts and music scene, meandering around Decatur, and finding anyone who can speak Polish with her.
Greg Morrison
The epic of Greg Morrison began in the capital of the dirty south, Hotlanta, in the year 1987 and the world has never been the same since. Armed with the pick of destiny, Greg shredded his way through insurmountable odds in the form of mere mortal internships and academia. After a short stint at the University of Georgia and respective colleges in Argentina and Spain, Greg continued his travels and followed in the footsteps of the most interesting man in the world. The only difference between the two is Greg chooses to endorse the good stuff. In his downtime, he can be found pioneering the first Michelin star food truck, grooving to m7b5 progressions, coloring with the digital crayons of vector and raster graphics, and learning the languages of the codemonkeys. This guy’s curiosity knows no boundaries!
Heather Gladney
Ginger by birth, Heather has been on the path to breaking the rules ever since she had the chance. She may just be the only person living that has won the title “Most Spirited” twice within one lifetime. Heather grew up in a town far away from anything remotely fun and thought coming to Atlanta for a day trip was like going to Disney World. The city was a foreign land to her and so she promised herself she would live there one day. After college Heather had the dream of moving to the city and starting her career by doing something fun. Thank goodness she has the coolest brother (Stephen Gladney) who introduced her to Scoutmob. After visiting the office just once, she knew this is where she wanted to be.
Heather has a daughter named Zoe who is Gray and covered in hair. Zoe goes everywhere with Heather …even to house parties. Devoted mother to her nub-bearing, Weimaraner child, Heather likes to get out and run in her dangerously tacky Vibrams. She happens to think Tony from P90x can stir his workout stew by himself because she would rather be frolicking in the sun.
Shafin Damani
Shafin Damani was born in Atlanta, Georgia, Tibet. He has had a long-time affiliation with Emory University, as he was both born in the Emory University Hospital and completed his undergraduate at Emory University, both of which are located at the foot of the Himalayas. When Shafin isn’t busy watching as many videos as possible to learn random stuff on Khan Academy and YouTube, he’s on a quest to find spicier food. Always looking for a spicy challenge, there was once a time when he disregarded spicy food as no match for him and would eat it and curse at it in a condescending manner. Then came the time where he infected a very painful area of his body with habanero pepper juice causing 7th degree burns. He has since learned to respect the powers of spicy fare. Challenge him to an eat-off if you dare.
Otherwise, Shafin has been using Scoutmob since February 21, 2010, and remained a huge fan since. He has consistently made 3 people a month download Scoutmob since that February day. He thinks it’s awesome and looks forward to making as many people hear about Scoutmob as possible.
